In this episode Bezalem Eshetu Yirdaw is interviewed by the editor Aline Afanoukoé.
Bezalem Eshetu Yirdaw is an Ethiopian Ph.D. student in statistics, specializing in biostatistics. She is studying the multilevel Bayesian network (a network model that combines Bayesian networks and multilevel modeling) for hierarchical multiple outcome data, under the supervision of Professor Legesse Kassa Debusho. She wants to become an expert in her field of study and find new methods to develop Bayesian networks that can be applied in diverse fields, especially in health sciences. When she receives her Ph.D., she will be one of the first few female statisticians in her country, breaking the myth that her field of study is reserved for men.
She is one of the 20 African women researchers rewarded for the excellence of their scientific work through the For Women in Science Young Talents Program for Sub-Saharan Africa, led by The Fondation L’Oréal and UNESCO.
