Peace is the hope of Christmas Luke 2:8-14 December 3, 2023 The reason for Jesus’ birth is God’s deep desire to see his creation no longer broken and in conflict but rather restored and at peace. John 14:7 Jeremiah 26:3 Shepherds in first century Israel were individuals who existed on the fringe of society. In a recent survey, nearly one-third of those questioned said that of all the people mentioned in the Christmas story, they identified the most with the shepherds. Peace is the world’s greatest need. Romans 5:10 Jesus reconciles us to God. Colossians 1:19-22 Peace does not mean you won’t have any problems. Peace means that your problems won’t have you. God desires us to make peace with ourselves. God desires us to make peace with others. His peace covers our past, meets us in our present, and is a promise for the future. Philippians 4:7 Peace is our Purpose. Matthew 5:9 Colossians 3:15 It is not optional for us to live in peace. It is an expectation that Jesus has for his followers.
