Who Do You Love? John 21:3-17 Simon Peter said, Im going fishing. Well come, too, they all said. So they went out in the boat, but they caught nothing all night. At dawn Jesus was standing on the beach, but the disciples couldnt see who he was. He called out, Fellows, have you caught any fish? No, they replied. Then he said, Throw out your net on the right-hand side of the boat, and youll get some! So they did, and they couldnt haul in the net because there were so many fish in it. Then the disciple Jesus loved said to Peter, Its the Lord! When Simon Peter heard that it was the Lord, he put on his tunic (for he had stripped for work), jumped into the water, and headed to shore. The others stayed with the boat and pulled the loaded net to the shore, for they were only about a hundred yards from shore. When they got there, they found breakfast waiting for themfish cooking over a charcoal fire, and some bread. Bring some of the fish youve just caught, Jesus said. So Simon Peter went aboard and dragged the net to the shore. There were 153 large fish, and yet the net hadnt torn. Now come and have some breakfast! Jesus said. None of the disciples dared to ask him, Who are you? They knew it was the Lord. Then Jesus served them the bread and the fish. This was the third time Jesus had appeared to his disciples since he had been raised from the dead. After breakfast Jesus asked Simon Peter, Simon son of John, do you love me more than these? Yes, Lord, Peter replied, you know I love you. Then feed my lambs, Jesus told him. Jesus repeated the question: Simon son of John, do you love me? Yes, Lord, Peter said, you know I love you. Then take care of my sheep, Jesus said. A third time he asked him, Simon son of John, do you love me? Peter was hurt that Jesus asked the question a third time. He said, Lord, you know everything. You know that I love you. Jesus said, Then feed my sheep. The Question of Love John 21:16 Jesus repeated the question: "Simon son of John, do you love me?" Matthew 22:37-39 Jesus replied, "You must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul and all your mind." This is the first and greatest commandment. A second is equally important: "Love your neighbor as yourself." Matthew 6:33 Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need. What Love Entails John 21:17 A third time he asked him, "Simon son of John, do you love me?" Peter was hurt that Jesus asked the question a third time. He said, "Lord, you know everything. You know that I love you." Jesus said, "Then feed my sheep." John 14:15 If you love me, obey my commandments. 1 John 5:3 Loving God means keeping his commandments, and his commandments are not burdensome. 1 John 3:16, 18-19 We know what real love is because Jesus gave up his life for us. So we also ought to give up our lives for our brthers and sisters......Dear children, let's not merely say that we love each other; let us show the truth by our actions. Our actions will show that we belong to the truth, so we will be confident when we stand before God. The Danger of Loosing Your Love 1 John 2:15-17 Do not love this world nor the things it offers you, for when you love the world, you do not have the love of the Father in you. For the world offers only a craving for physical pleasure, a craving for everything we see, and pride in our achievements and possessions. These are not from the Father, but are from this world. And this world is fading away, along with everything that people crave. But anyone who does what pleases God will love forever. Revelation 2:4-5 But I have this complaint against you. You don't love me or each other as you did at first! Look how far you have fallen! Turn back to me and do the works you did at first. If you don't repent, I will come and remove your lampstand from its place among the churches.
