Kia ora, Talofa, Ma’lelei, Bula, Aloha and Welcome to Season 10 Episode 48 of Breakfast Bites, by TEIVOVOdigital.com – a wrap of Pasifika people’s sports news, on Monday morning 19 August 2024.
Coming to you with tons of hanisi from the 180th meridian, in the middle of the blue continent, where it is partly cloudy and 19 degrees Celsius at 5am this morning.
In Rugby Union: Powerful Wing Marika Koroibete, inspired in his first Test since last year’s Rugby World Cup, but the two-time reigning World Cup champions, boasting 14 World Cup winners, overpowered the Wallabies with three second-half tries, in front of 58,197 fans at Optus Stadium, Perth - a Springboks stronghold, for a 30-12 win on Saturday night.
In the other “Rugby Championship” Test – the mighty All Blacks came roaring back to “La Bamba” Los Pumas 10-42 at Fortress Eden Park.
In Rugby League: “People in Bundaberg will be able to say I was there the day the Hammer ran down the Foxx, that is a great rugby league moment,” Andrew Voss said on FOX TV yesterday.
Dolphins speedster Hamiso Tabuai-Fidow staked his claim for being the fastest man in the NRL after chasing down Bulldogs flyer Josh Addo-Carr with an incredible try-saving tackle yesterday afternoon.
The Dogs were on the attack when Addo-Carr received the ball inside his 20M and ‘The Foxx’ took off down field in Bundaberg.
Unanimously considered the fastest man in rugby league, looked certain to score as he crossed halfway with nobody around him.
But ‘The Hammer’ changed gear, chased The Foxx down before making one of the great try-saving tackles, just four metres from the line.
In Sportsbiz: The Los Angeles Clippers have finally escaped from their big brother, to the Intuit Dome, a privately funded US$2Billion arena in Inglewood, California, opened with two concerts by Bruno Mars.
Steve Ballmer, one of the 10 richest people in the US, who funded the arena, hopes to make it a “basketball mecca,” as part of his vision when he purchased the Clippers in 2014 for US$2Billion.
At the time, he was criticized for overpaying for the franchise, but the team is now worth US$4.7B according to Forbes.
In Football: Dutch international Joshua Zirkzee became a Man U hero on his debut, with a late winner to beat Fulham 1-0 in the opening game of the Premier League season.
Zirkzee, lacking match fitness after his move from Bologna last month, came on only for the final half hour.
In UFC: Dricus Du Plessis of South Africa successfully defended his UFC Middleweight title against Kiwi-Nigerian challenger, Israel Adesanya in UFC305 in Perth, Australia yesterday, forcing a tap out submission.
Kiora mate!
