E24: Men Lie, Women Lie, Spirit Don't - Using Discernment to Weed Out Scammers
Manage episode 307810190 series 2949111
If you're active on social media, it feels like every other day someone is outed as a scammer, an abuser or a master manipulator. And if they were in the spiritual space? Yuck. In this episode, Mik and Jenn get into the red flags that might signal scammers are lurking, but more importantly, how to use your intuition to sniff out who might not be genuine.
Some things we talked about in this episode:
- Jenn recently read a really interesting article about a California town having a water crisis and the steps that they’re taking to conserve. You can read it on Bloomberg.
- In that same article, one town offered their residents 50% off on Flume, a smart device that monitors your water usage at your house. You can find the product on their website and more information about water conservation on their Instagram.
- You can read more about Dana Chanel and her case with the Pennsylvania Attorney General on Buzzfeed News.
- Full length David Taylor Deposition
- The Lula Rich docuseries is a wild ride. You can watch on Amazon Prime.
- Enneagram research paper
- We Seduced on Starz, which is a docuseries about the NXIVM cult. There is another docuseries on NXIVM called The Vow on HBO Max. We won’t link it because one of the producers was in the cult and may have downplayed his role (WTF?).
- The Guru Jagat story that Jenn mentioned is detailed on Insider.
- We also wanted to bring back therapy resources for anyone who may have encountered spiritual abuse: Open Path Collective | TherapyForBlackMen | Talkspace
- In our “As Seen on TV” segment, we wrapped up with the amazing documentary that we watched called Fantastic Fungi. It’s really a MUST. SEE.
