As a child of the 90s, I was raised in what we call the purity movement that swept across the USA. Words like virginity, modesty, abstinence, purity. All these were common vernacular in our house. In fact, IF we ever talked about sex, the conversation was typically quite short, because it was based around abstinence and virginity. Women especially have been exploited and controlled and judged by their virginity or lack thereof for 1000s of years. This is nothing new.
However, Joshua Harris brought it back nice and strong in the 90s with his book "I Kissed Dating Goodbye". In this info, what I want to talk about is the five top myths of the purity movement, and how it affects the unconscious/subconscious mind as well as the conscious mind. And of course, since they're myths, how it affects our lifestyle.
So let's travel back, we're the early 90s, Joshua Harris, a 21-year-old, homeschooled virgin, who writes a book (I don't know why parents listen to this guy), but it gave them more power and control over their kids' sexuality, putting us right back in the Middle Ages.
