NATIONAL
- Southwest Airlines said it plans to recall more than 2,700 flight attendants and 209 pilots who took leaves of absence last year.
- FEMA will provide financial assistance for COVID-19-related funeral expenses incurred after January 20, 2020. Assistance is limited to a maximum of $9,000 per funeral and a maximum of $35,500 per application per state, territory, or DC.
LOCAL
- DC, Maryland, and Virginia will now allow 16+ to register for the COVID-19 vaccine
- Virginia legalizes simple possession of marijuana beginning July 1.
- Maryland lawmakers give final approval to a comprehensive package of police reform measures which includes the required use of body cameras statewide by 2026, expand public access to records related to police misconduct cases, and limit the use of no-knock police warrants.
- Black and Latino U.S. Army 2nd Lt. Caron Nazario was attacked by Windsor Police Department officers Daniel Crocker and Joe Gutierrez, who held Lieutenant Nazario at gunpoint and sprayed him with mace while his hands were in the air.
- The Anne Arundel County Police Department is currently piloting the Fresh START program, a pre-arrest youth diversion program, in two of the County’s patrol districts.
- Georgetown University is offering a bachelor's degree program to incarcerated inmates in Maryland. The program, led by the Georgetown Prisons & Justice Initiative (PJI), plans to welcome the first group of about 25 students at the Patuxent Institution maximum-security facility in Jessup, MD.
