The Apostle Peter wrote the letter we call 1 Peter while persecution against Christians was simmering in and around ancient Rome. He wanted his readers to be prepared for hard things to come, and he sought to prepare them by reminding them of their identity as the chosen people of God, living as exiles in a world of suffering.

We continue our series in 1 Peter looking at 1 Peter 3:8-12.

  1. Call to Action #1 (V. 8-9)
    A - Reason for the Action #1( V. 9)
  2. Call to Action #2 (V. 10-11)
    B - Reason for the Action #2 (V. 12)
  • 1 Peter 2:23
  • 1 Peter 2:21
  • 1 Peter 1:9

It is for discipline that you have to endure. God is treating you as sons. For what son is there whom his father does not discipline? Hebrews 12:1-2

How would we respond?

  • For Christians: Run from evil and turn to Christ
  • Non-Christians: Run from evil and turn to Christ
  • All who feel discouraged: trust in the goodness of God

I will bless the LORD at all times; his praise shall continually be in my mouth. My soul makes its boast in the LORD; let the humble hear and be glad. Oh, magnify the LORD with me, and let us exalt his name together! I sought the LORD, and he answered me and delivered me from all my fears. Those who look to him are radiant, and their faces shall never be ashamed. This poor man cried, and the LORD heard him and saved him out of all his troubles. The angel of the LORD encamps around those who fear him, and delivers them. Oh, taste and see that the LORD is good! Blessed is the man who takes refuge in him! Oh, fear the LORD, you his saints, for those who fear him have no lack! The young lions suffer want and hunger; but those who seek the LORD lack no good thing. Psalm 34:1-10
