Alaina Love wants you to find your passion - and then express it through your most important work. But what is passion? How do we identify ours? And how can we create workplaces that validate and support them?

Love is coauthor of The Purpose Linked Organization: How Passionate Leaders Inspire Winning Teams and Great Results, and President and Co-founder of Purpose Linked Consulting.

Her big idea is that we all have different passions - and these aren't what you probably think they are. We're not talking about loving animals, or playing sports, or collecting comic books.

Instead, our passions show up in the ways we relate to work and other people we share work with.

You might be a teacher, or a healer, or a visionary. And while we might define these and other similar terms in vague ways, one of Love's contributions to human happiness and wellbeing is to provide clear, actionable, working definitions of the passions she's identified.

We all express all of the passions, to some degree, but typically three of them are most influential, and resonate most with us. These three make up what Love calls your "passion profile."

Engage these passions, and you'll have a fulfilling work life.

Ignore or short-change them, and you'll be unfulfilled and possibly frustrated or even miserable at work.
