The Fabelmans - Steven Spielberg's Thorny Love Letter to Art and Family #075
Manage episode 355962540 series 2984103
In this latest episode, Dhruv and Aryan welcome fellow Spielberg fan and blogger Varun Bhakay (@cinephilestock) to discuss the comfortingly complicated magic of "The Fabelmans" - the Master's semi-autobiographical recollection of his filmmaking roots.
Before reaching this (seemingly) final stop in the director's illustrious career, we try to remember the various places where his cinema worked its ineffable magic on us. Everything from familiar favorites -- "Jaws," "E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial," "Close Encounters of the Third Kind," -- to newer, underappreciated works -- "The Adventures of Tintin," "Bridge of Spies" -- gets visited briefly. Because all these, in some way or the other, provide routes into "The Fabelmans," which, in return, opens up (re)entry roads to all these wonderful (in some cases, haunting) places.
Please listen to the full episode for a spoiler-filled discussion of our favorite scenes and performances in "The Fabelmans." Dhruv spoils the party a little bit with his second-half complaints, though!
