'Females Coming Into Male Dominated Sports Will Happen'

American Football is at the forefront of a revolution, as they look to lead the way in breaking down barriers for women in male dominated sports. Eight women currently coach in the NFL and Washington recently appointed Jennifer King to their coaching roster. Making her the first African American, female assistant position coach, in league history. On top of this, the highest profile game in the sport, the Super Bowl, saw three women involved in the event – two coaches and one official, for the very first time. Although there is still much work to do, to ensure that women and diversity are allowed to thrive in the NFL, the building blocks have begun. It does beg the question though, why are women not being given more opportunities in elite sports in Britain? Particularly when it comes to the nation’s number one sport, football.
