Needs assessment is a skillset that goes beyond interviews and checklists - it requires a healthy dose of EQ and an ability to speak your customer's language (and not throw them off with yours). My guest is Shelagh Ell who is the Director of Talent Management at ATCO in Alberta Canada. Shelagh and her team are responsible for creating Talent programs that work across a very diverse set of business lines across many countries covering functions such as electricity and gas, and regulatory, among others. The complexity is high and the opportunity to make a difference is huge.

About Shelagh Ell: Shelagh Ell is an experienced Talent Management and Learning & Development practitioner. Driven by innovation, she takes pride in creating HR strategies, programs, and initiatives that support corporate culture and make the organization an employer of choice. Shelagh had an unconventional start to her career as a senior leader in Talent Management, originally training and working as a financial advisor.
As Director, Talent Practices, her goals include cultivating a growth mindset, developing future ready leaders, increasing well-being, and promoting a diverse workforce. In addition to her primary functions, Shelagh has been recognized by Canada’s Safest Employers for best wellness and psychological safety program.
