Episode 152: Irritability In Men And How It Screws Up Romantic Relationships
Manage episode 323317279 series 2577327
Boys learn a certain set of rules in terms of what it means to be a man from friends, peers, coaches, movies, music and social media. These rules include ideas such as be stoic, be tough, be self-reliant, don’t act gay and don’t act feminine. This process starts in kindergarten and continues beyond high school. These rules make up the Man Box. These rules are so deeply engrained in us, it is hard to even recognize the profound impact they have on our daily living.
One such impact is in our romantic relationships. As men may only demonstrate anger, stress or lust publicly (without fear of being mocked), even male depression comes out differently than female depression. Male depression largely comes out as irritability, impatience, and blaming others for problems.
Join Dr. John and Joree Rose, LMFT for an enlightening conversation around how these things impact romantic relationships and what you can do about it.
