Season 3 Episode 7 – My guest is Alan Yanovich. Alan is a Partner at Akin Gump in Geneva, Switzerland, where he represents foreign governments and multinational corporations on disputes before the WTO and other international dispute-resolution bodies. Alan was born and raised in Colombia and attended Georgetown for his bachelor's and JD degrees. In our conversation, he talks about his experience as an International student and attending some Hoyas games to see Mutombo and Mourning. After law school, Alan worked for the Colombian Government Trade Bureau in Washington, and this eventually led to a stint at the General Secretariat of the Andean Community. This professional formative experience allowed him to get hands-on experience with different aspects of International Economic Law, which proved helpful when joining the WTO at the Appellate Body Secretariat. In our conversation, he talks about the selection process and some of his work for the WTO. After some years, he looked to more significant challenges and joined a law firm where he has been working for several years. Alan is a good friend, and we had a delightful and insightful conversation touching on many aspects of International Economic Law. I hope you enjoy our conversation.
