The Subcontinental is a South Asian Voices (SAV) podcast on strategic issues in South Asia. SAV is an online magazine featuring rising South Asian analysts. It aims to foster free-flowing, critical debate on South Asia's security, economic, and political issues with a special focus on nuclear issues. This episode of the The Subcontinental features guest Michael Kugelman. Michael is a senior associate for South and Southeast Asia at the Woodrow Wilson Center in Washington, DC. His research focuses on the security, development, and politics of India, Pakistan, and Afghanistan, and on U.S.-South Asian relations. He has edited several volumes on issues such as energy, water, and urbanization in South Asia, and his work has appeared in publications such as Foreign Policy, The New York Times, and The Diplomat. Michael Kugelman joins Host Dr. Sameer Lalwani to discuss the spiraling situation in South Asia after the Uri attack, responses to it, and its impact on regional stability. Specifically, they discuss India’s “surgical strikes,” the postponement of the SAARC summit, India potentially reviewing the Most Favored Nation status it has granted Pakistan, and most significantly, the implications of abrogating the Indus Waters Treaty.
