In this episode we discuss the idea that "Slavery Brought Black People to America'', where this narrative of land locked Africans might have come from, the emergence of Afro-Pessimism, why so many peoples of color experience erasure, how spending time with cousins can prepare you to be a better human, and the concept of "discovery"! Gather round, fam!
The "Who Taught You That?" Podcast was born to combat the crippling social and political impact of historically inaccurate, culturally incompetent, and afro-pessimistic narratives that have often led to community and cultural erasure, deficit-based perspectives, and ultimately structural harm and violence toward BIPOC folx. Recognizing that many of these narratives were learned and are currently taught in your average primary and secondary school social studies class, the hosts of WTYT? seek to confront many of those toxic narratives by asking, "Fam, who taught you that?"
