With the subject of ransomware appearing in the news media more and more, we thought it would be interesting to go right to the RCMP and talk about it. They were not only gracious and accommodating, but in this podcast we get to interview the Director General of their National Cybercrime Coordination Unit (NC3), Mr. Chris Lynam.
Chris has many, many years of experience dealing with security and intelligence issues for the Canadian Government and law enforcement agencies. His knowledge of the subject is vast. As you can imagine, he is a busy man, so we were thrilled that he took some time out of his schedule to talk with us.
You'll learn a lot listening to the Director General of NC3, Mr. Chris Lynam.
Know what "triple extortion" is? Did you know Bitcoin can be traced? Who does the NC3 liaise with internationally?
John and Paul would also like to thank ...
Kim Chamberland, Media Relations Officer
Robin Percival, Media Relations Officer
Margaret Riehle, Communications Strategist
... without whom this interview would not have happened.

The RCMP has asked me to mention the following ...
Victim reporting is key to addressing cybercrime incidents as it enables law enforcement to combat cybercrime and helps identify linkages across separately reported cybercrime incidents, such as links to organized crime.
Anyone who suspects they have been the victim of cybercrime, scam or fraud should report it to their local police of jurisdiction and to the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre’s online reporting system or by phone at 1-888-495-8501. Please note, if someone experienced an incident but didn’t fall victim, they are still encouraged to report it to the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre.

On the reporting system webpage, you will see we are currently looking for small or medium-sized business owner volunteers to provide feedback on our pilot reporting website so that we can better understand what Canadian businesses need from a scam, fraud and cybercrime reporting service.
