And this is for profit for purpose, where we talk all things real estate, real estate entrepreneurship, and doing it all with a purpose, a greater purpose. And this is my co-host Brian. And today we have Marcus and Jessica Trufant and they are here to talk about truly unruly and what it's really like as going from an NFL career to a real estate entrepreneurial career and doing that all with five children and, uwhat, what it really looks like and how do you do it and how do you do it? Well, so welcome Marcus and Jessica. Thank you for joining us. Thank you for having so,uwhat you guys have seen and done a lot, uthat, uthat people admire and that people strive to do. And,uand you do it all with grace and class while giving back. And so we'd really love to hear a little bit about what's it like really on the inside, right? What's it like going from, ufrom a professional sports career to real estate entrepreneurship, to raising five children and having it all happen, especially in the midst of COVID Marcus Trufant: Right. I would say to, do they want the clean version and do they Katrina Eileen: No, no, no. [inaudible] Crazy. Well, for starters, I think Marcus has transitioned from the NFL to being an entrepreneur was pretty immediate and he had his he had all his business and step in order, he started that before he retired from the NFL. So the transition into business was smooth, but the transition being at home and being with the kids really different. Marcus Trufant: And as far as my transition it was more of a thing to where I kind of saw the writing on the wall. You know, I have had some injuries. I was getting older. I was getting slower about a year, right. So, and every year there's new guys coming in and you see all of the horror stories of guys on you know, that came before at that retire and they go through a bunch of financial troubles and stuff like that. So I made up in my mind that I did not want to be that guy. So of course, out of fear my whole career, I really didn't invest in anything outside of the stock market of course. And because that's what everybody does as soon as you come out of college and you go pro and you get your agent and you get your financial advisor. So I was doing the bare minimum, but of course, out of fear, I didn't want to do anything cause I didn't want to be another story. Right. Brian Ray: I can hear that. And so can you give us a little walk of w did you go directly into real estate or did you dabble in a few different things? What was your walk there? Marcus Trufant: Well, you know, being a young man and kind of learning the business and you come in as a rookie you know, learning, yeah. It's just a learning curve. It's a new part of life. I'm stepping into something that I really wasn't familiar with. So I took my lumps of getting involved in, you know, silly or stuff. That really like sounded good. Okay, I'm going to have my name up in lights on this building. I may want to do this type of restaurant or I may want to do some other stuff. And a lot of that stuff doesn't, or it didn't work for me, but good thing. I didn't throw a bunch of money into it. I was investing in like some shows and different stuff here locally when it came to music and kind of the party scene and stuff, but I was still young.…

The show where we believe smart real estate investing is for everyone. Today we're talking to a true Pell getter. Imagine owning more rentals than you are years old. And that's the game. This guy is up. Katrina Eileen: So Cody Davis, we are thrilled to meet you. And why don't you tell us a little bit about yourself and how you got involved in real estate. And let's start with, can you tell us how old you are? Cody Davis: 20 years old? Katrina Eileen: I love it. Okay. So you're a baby, Cody Davis: Something like that. A little bit about me 20 year old real estate agent based out of Tacoma, Washington, I got licensed as a real estate agent in 19 years old, started out my career. I was a gymnastics coach for four years at the local YMCA. And then I knew I wanted to get into real estate. And so I started doing some yard work for a couple of family, friends. And from there I got an offer to join an online real estate group, had some mentors reach out to me and I got my license just a few weeks after that. Katrina Eileen: So what was that, that you reached out on the Facebook group and found your mentors Cody Davis: First reached out on Facebook about two years ago now? Actually probably within the next couple of weeks or so a little bit, two years. And I got licensed as a real estate agent about 18 months ago, January, 2019, and the rest has been history. Katrina Eileen: That's fantastic. So from gymnastics to real estate and real estate done, right. Cody Davis: Something like that. Try my best. Katrina Eileen: So how did you, so you, you were 16 when you started taking care of the neighbor's lawn. Cody Davis: So I was 16 when I started coaching gymnastics and then 17, 18. I started doing more yard work. As soon as I turned 19 years old, I got licensed. It was within like a week of being 19. Katrina Eileen: And so what was it that intrigued you about real estate at that age? I know, I know my teenagers. Weren't thinking about real estate. Cody Davis: I got handed the rich dad, poor dad book at a very young age. And so that got me super excited about real estate started studying. And then when I actually got through it, all I got through the book, I was super hyped about real estate. Want to get into it realized I was only 14 years old with the book deck back down because I couldn't buy anything. And I ended up just getting back into it in high school. Katrina Eileen: That's fantastic. Did, and you know, one of the things, it sounds like you did, right. Was surround yourself with people who well, one you're willing to do whatever it took, right? So you're reading the book, rich dad, poor dad. And you hear the big story, but you were willing to do yard work. Cody Davis: Yeah. Whatever it takes to, to get involved with folks that are in that space. Katrina Eileen: That's fantastic. And are you still, are you still doing things with those those, those people who were so part of your early, Cody Davis: Some of them I've actually helped them place some of their money into investments. So it came full circle. So if someone, I was helping paint houses with and he actually ended up putting some money into an investment with Blackwell, the company I'm working with. So it's just come full circle. Katrina Eileen: That's fantastic. And you know, when, when you talk about it, go get her that's, that's really quintessentially what a go getter is. They're the, they're the ones that are willing to do the things, other people aren't, but also it's being able to see opportunity, right.…

And he's someone who I listened to and informs my opinion and my strategy and my own portfolio, as well as for my clients. So today we get to get a little bit of an update, but also find out the why, and what's behind and drives Todd bridge. So join me. Katrina Eileen:Well, hello, I'm Katrina. I leaned Roman task and welcome to for-profit for purpose, the podcast where we talk all things, real estate and all things. The purpose behind what we do today, we have the man, the myth, the legend, Todd Britsch, and I also have my new cohost, at least for the next four shows Brian Ray. So welcome to our, you laughed when I said that, Todd, Todd Britsch:Well, thank you for having me. Yes, I did. Katrina Eileen:You do know, we all like there's a little a hero worship that goes on Todd Britsch:When Todd talks. It's almost like God around Todd Britsch:Our office. Todd Britsch:Well, so much for EFI. Are you guys too young to remember EF Hutton? Katrina Eileen:I don't remember the name. It's like a commercial on TV or something. Yeah. Todd Britsch:Yeah. So we need a have and spoke everybody just, Katrina Eileen:Oh, and he speaks, everyone listens. All right. So Todd Britsch, tell us a little bit about how you got started in the real estate game. Todd Britsch:Well you gotta go back a wee bit, you know, so I like a lot, you know, little guy I would sit around the table with my mother who was just a phenomenal mentor to me, a work ethic, like no other. And we would sit around the kitchen table looking over master plan communities and floor plans. And even at 12 years old, she would ask my advice on things that I noticed within the floor plans and how the master plan communities came about. And just so you know, what her background was credibly proud of the swimming. She started out as a cleaning lady of an apartment complex then became the manager. And then the owner of that apartment complex asked her to go sell some condos for, so this was over just a three-year span between. And I think I was five to seven and then her and bill Hermie started a company called map Realty and they built that up to a multimillion dollar brokage back in the seventies and early eighties. Todd Britsch:And she ended up walking away the year I graduated from high school and within weeks she got a phone call from a builder to paraphrase. I've got this 50 acres. I don't know what to do with it. And that started her consulting career. So right off the bat out of high school, I started going and grabbing data for her from these different subdivisions, had no idea what I was doing. And but I got the bug and did that only for about six to eight months cause he was impossible to work for. So at this point in my life, my father has just gotten sober. He'd been sober for maybe eight months. My mother is starting a new company, just an incredible amount of stress within our household. But I got to do, this was probably one of the key things that really got me hooked on the industry.…

35:37Brian Ray turns the tables and interviews Katrina Eileen in this video I made my first million in real estate when I was 33 years old, I didn't believe it was possible to even be a homeowner. After growing up in 20 different homes, I've spent my life learning the game of real estate entrepreneurship to have the freedom to parent and guide my own schedule and to express my purpose in the world. What is your purpose? How do you put that purpose behind what you do for money? I believe you were meant to make an impact. My real estate company was built around my purpose of having people discover what they're truly capable of. I'm Katrina, Eileen, and this is my podcast for profit for purpose. Brian Ray:Welcome. If you joined us for the first time, this is our second time in the last five minutes, jumping on, we had some technical difficulties. It is mercury retrograde, and we're back. And if you don't know, this is Katrina show what's that? Katrina Eileen:Yeah,Brian Ray:It is informed by my wife and I'm taking over Katrina's show because the tables need to turn and they need to turn because we need to find out why are you doing all this stuff? Katrina, why are you doing the nonprofit? Why are you doing the brokerage? Why are you doing all the multitude of things? What you're doing, we want to find out what's driving the madness. That is Katrina, Eileen. Brian Ray:And I have to tell you it is massive. Yes, Brian Ray:I know it is. And it's full of love and generosity. And I can't believe you can do it. I can't believe any human can do it. So I'm excited to be able to probe with some deep questions. So if you ever wanted to know about Katrina or why you should do business with Katrina or why you should want to be part of the Katrina Eileen brokerage, or if you're just curious and you're like, you know what, I want to talk to two awesome human beings. You're in the right space. And then you can hear my daughter the eight month old in the background. So we're in good company. Are we not? How are you doing Katrina? Say hi. anny Ray:All right. Fabulous. Well, let's just jump into it. Give us your story in five minutes or less.Katrina Eileen:Say that again. What am I about? Give us your story. Give me a story. Well, like Brian, that's in five minutes or less. I can do it even quicker. Let's see. So I I'm a mother of five. I am a real estate developer. I am a real estate broker. I'm an investor. I believe in people, I think I want to play the game at a high level and the only way you can do that is with other people who also play the game at a high level. And I like to be challenged. I like being around people who like to be challenged, so that's what we do. Ranny Ray:And if you had to sum up your life into, or three words, what would you say that is?Katrina Eileen:One or three words. Never quit. Brian Ray:Okay. Good. All right. And where'd you come from? Did you grow up here? Like, what was your beginning? Like? Brian Ray:Yeah, I was born in a barn, well, almost born in a barn. My grandpa has a farm up in Skagit County in Mount Vernon and I think we were living, we moved a lot. But looking back, I think we were just living in a little single wide on my grandpa's farm when I was born in the right next to the big, huge acre garden Brian Ray:Born in a barn. So you're good at leaving doors open as well, huh? That's right. Katrina Eileen:That's right. People say, where were you born in a barn? Yep. Brian Ray:Yes, I was actually okay. So so you grew up in Mount Vernon.…

For Profit For Purpose with Katrina Eileen
What is For Profit For Purpose? If you are someone who needs to buy or sell real estate, This is for you. If you're someone who's got a boatload of money laying around and you want to invest it in intelligent real estate Investments, This is for you. If you’re a broker and you are someone who's driven by your purpose and you know that you thrive when you're around intelligent, competent fun-loving kind people. This is for you. If you are if you've got money that you've set aside to do good and that you've earmarked for that and you're looking to put that someplace where it will create something sustainable and Perpetual, This is for you. I want to make this real estate done right. I want to equip people to understand why and what they're buying and selling. I want to have investors make a ton. I want everyone to win, right? I want our sellers and buyers to win. What do we say? We say we want our buyers to win, our sellers to profit, our investors to prosper. So I'm doing this because I really was raised in a story or context that there's a lot of things out there that are for other people. They're just not for us and when I learned about real estate and basically what the rules of engagement are and how it works and realize that, oh man, not only is this for me but this is a really powerful tool, this creates a lot of freedom in life. That's when life changed and what I was capable of changed and so I'm doing this because I want other people to play in that game, right? I feel like real estate is a great equalizer. And when you the only thing that holds you back from success in real estate is yourself for not understanding how it’s played. And so that's what this is all about is making sure that everybody has that opportunity. Why you should listen to this is because so many people have been through the circuit of grooves and people who come to town and teach something. There's nothing here that we're doing like that. We're actually talking to people who are in the game, people who are on the ground and actually using this as a vehicle right now every day and this is not going to be the people that you normally would hear from or think of when you think of real estate investing. Since property ownership has been a thing, vast amounts of wealth have been transferred from generation to generation through real estate. And so when you have real estate, you have not only a foundation for your life now, but for leaving a legacy for your children, and I'm a mother and that's really important to me. It's really about freedom and its really being about being able to kind of plot your own course, and creating opportunity and taking advantage of that so that you get to let you know yourself differently get it know yourself and who you are and just be yourself because everything I've been a part of so far. There's some really cool things that we can do by just changing the view of business as usual and who and what we can see from that different perspective or new opportunities. We can make a lot of money, we can have a lot of fun together and we can really be in control of where we're going. So, we are a company of Brokers and investors, as well as we are the first real estate company in the state of Washington to be B Corp. Social purpose for profit. It’s like Tom’s shoes right? Buy a pair, give a pair is that actually a type of corporation that their distinction if they don't have to be driven solely by profit in their decision-making they actually equal to that are driven by purpose. So when they're making their when their decisions where purpose often can outweigh Profit that I think that the businesses that are going to be around or the ones that have meaning and have purpose and so I think that's the real magic is in longevity.…
