In episode 2, Annie and Jerry discuss the Cape Town cleanse, swag looting in First Class, and the drunk dialing on Phenergan. Despite facing health issues during the trip and not being able to fully explore the art scene as planned, Jerry shares anecdotes about her experiences, including some of the incredible galleries and art works she encountered while in Cape Town.

Jerry and Annie also address an important issue in the art world regarding the fair treatment and timely payment of artists. Upon hearing her (formerly) favorite Cape Town galleries has a reputation for stiffing their artists, the gals discuss the mechanisms that put artists in a vulnerable position to get stiffed by galleries and reflect on the need for proper contracts and legal protection for artists before exhibition sales.

Additionally, the ladies touch on the controversy surrounding luxury retailer Hermes and their alleged practice of reserving Birkin bags for high-spending customers comparing and contrasting the Art Market to the luxury retail market.

And finally, Jerry takes the opportunity to rip apart Art Speak, again, and Annie talks about the "out of touch" Whitney Biennial currently on view in New York.

Adam Lindemann stands as one of the art world's most dynamic forces, seamlessly bridging the realms of collecting, entrepreneurship, and gallery ownership through his renowned Venus Over Manhattan gallery. His trajectory from finance to becoming a pivotal figure in contemporary art has been marked by bold decisions and prescient insights, perhaps most notably captured in his influential book "Collecting Contemporary," where he turned the tables by interviewing other major collectors. His unique position as both a collector and gallerist has given him an invaluable dual perspective on the art market's mechanics and evolution. I was absolutely thrilled to have Adam join me on Art Smack, where he brought his characteristic candor and deep market knowledge to our discussion. During our engaging conversation, he shared fascinating insights about the current state of the art market, his collecting philosophy, and his vision for the future of traditional galleries in an increasingly digital age. One of the most memorable moments was when I couldn't resist asking him if Andy Warhol would have liked me, given Adam's personal connection to the iconic artist. His ability to articulate complex market dynamics while maintaining an authentic passion for art made him an exceptional guest, offering our audience a masterclass in how to navigate the contemporary art world with both business acumen and genuine appreciation for the medium. --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/jerrygogosian/support…

Great news: WE FIXED OUR AUDIO SITUATION on Art Smack . This week Jerry dragged Matt to come on the podcast to not talk about art. Instead they discuss all of the things around the art i.e. The Substance, Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice, Luigi Mangioni, "subtle foreshadowing" videos, those creepy drones all over the east coast, movies that opened our eyes as teenagers, and our collective hangover from GenX'ers like Peaches and Le Tigre. This is not a hard hitting episode about art. Opposite. Its a very dumb episode. Enjoy. --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/jerrygogosian/support…

In a plot twist that shocked absolutely no one, the art world managed to keep spinning without its favorite commentator as Jerry Gogosian emerged from a 49-day digital sabbatical. Breaking her 18-year streak, Jerry (aka Hilde) skipped the glittering chaos of Art Basel Miami Beach and its satellite spectacles – proving that sometimes the best art move is no move at all. Enter Magnus Resch, Jerry's trusted confidant and art market savant, who arrives bearing tales from the trenches. With his signature analytical prowess and insider knowledge, Magnus catches Jerry up on the wheeling, dealing, and occasional art-world reeling she missed while offline. The conversation takes a delightfully cerebral turn as Jerry and Magnus explore the radical concept of "slow content consumption" (also known as reading books), dive into The Renaissance (the original art influencers), and discuss various consciousness-expanding practices – from yoga to Qi Gong – that don't involve staring at installation art through an iPhone screen. The episode culminates in Magnus challenging Jerry to reflect on what truly draws her to the art world – now that she's had time to miss the beautiful circus she usually chronicles. A refreshingly honest conversation about art, authenticity, and the unexpected joys of disconnecting from the digital matrix. --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/jerrygogosian/support…

In this episode of Art Smack, Jerry Gogosian and her new co-host Annie Taylor kick off season two with a lively and somewhat chaotic introduction, setting the tone for an episode filled with personal anecdotes, insights into the art world, and a candid discussion about the intersections of art, business, and ethics. Annie brings a rich background in art history and business from her studies in Louisiana, experiences working at an auction house and Art Basel's satellite fair, and her current role in Fine Art Logistics. As the episode unfolds, does a play-by-play of Frieze Los Angeles, Felix, and all of the parties surrounding last week's celebrations. Annie and Jerry also delve into more serious topics, including the departure of the previous co-host Matthew, who left the art world to pursue more lucrative endeavors, ahem, finance. This episode also introduces our transition adding a video component to the podcast & adding new levels of awkward to the podcast :) The discussion takes a deeper dive into the challenges and pressures of pursuing an MBA, with Jerry sharing personal struggles and revelations about sunk costs, risk aversion, and the stark realities of legal and ethical business boundaries compared to the art world's more fluid norms. This episode's narrative weaves through tales of personal growth, a surprising opportunity with United Talent Agency, and a commitment to making strategic financial decisions as an artist. The episode encapsulates a the blending of art and commerce, and the importance of embracing change and opportunity without losing sight of one's roots and values in the art community.
