A healthy sense of spirituality gives us courage in the face of uncertainty, courage in the face of our greatest difficulties.
A person with a healthy sense of spirituality is not a Pollyanna. That person is firmly grounded in reality. However, their reality is never defined by their problems.
Acts describes a time when Paul and Silas were arrested, tortured, shackled, and locked in the deepest part of the prison. (Chapter 16)
In their deepest night, in shackles, wounded and imprisoned, Paul and Silas remained centered. They continued to sing and pray.
An earthquake came and shook the foundations of the prison itself. They were free but chose to remain for the sake of the jailer’s life.
A person with healthy spirituality is always free no matter what the circumstances.
