Today we start 1 Timothy, and I am so excited to dive into this book with you all! First Timothy is all about the gospel. It explores how the gospel leads to practical and visible change in believers’ lives. It is a book aimed at correcting error and abiding in the truth. Of all the books in the Bible it might be the most practical for grasping how the gospel shapes how we operate as a church. Moreover, Paul goes to great lengths to contrast the true gospel with the vain religiosity that had crept into the Ephesian church. The former produced the fruit of the Spirit while the latter produced controversy, division, and fruitless talk. It is my hope that as we study this book the Lord will produce good fruit in us!
