"People like Walt Disney, Walter Knott, really kind of created this spirit of anything goes."

Welcome Chris Epting:

We’re joined on the Starline by a storyteller, traveler and author of more than 30 books. Last time he visited, he talked about America’s Pop Culture Landmarks. This time he’s here to reminisce about places you could have visited in the past, but can’t do anymore in “Lost Landmarks of Orange County.” We welcome author Chris Epting.

Welcome back my friend. Let’s go Beyond the Mic. You start your book with the question: “why do we feel a deep-rooted connection to these lost landmarks?” How did these landmarks touch your soul and why was it necessary to keep them alive?

Orange County has been home to oil, silicon technology, entertainment and agriculture. What has caused Orange County to evolve forcing it to reinvent itself in the last 100 years?

Which non entertainment landmarks that was lost to time hit your heart the hardest?

The Rockin' 8:

It’s time for the Rockin’ 8, 8 random questions, answer with the first thing that comes to your mind. There is no Pressure.

1. Last time we asked your least favorite, this time, your favorite Hitchcock film?

2. Which book took the shortest for you to write and which one the longest?

3. Favorite photo that you haven’t shown anyone not related to you?

4. Best place to eat at Huntington Beach?

5. What keeps you balanced between life and work?

6. Last baseball game you attended?

7. Have you ever ridden a camel?

8. Best thing about your daughter Claire and son Charlie?

One Big Question:

As you tell stories of others following the Writers Oath (I promise solemnly 1. To write as often and as much as I can, 2. To respect my writing self, and 3. To nurture the writing of others. I accept these responsibilities and shall honor them always.) , there’s one story of your life that is the most important to you. What is it?

Sneaking in a one more:

I’m talking to John Oates later this week, what’s one question you never asked him that you want to know?

The Wrap:

John Oates is his favorite person on earth. His kids share empathy like no other, rode a camel at the Bronx Zoo. Chris wants you to read “Lost Landmarks of Orange County.” Chris where can people find you online?

Our friend Chris Epting, thanks for taking the time to talk with us today.

And that my friends is a Beyond the Mic Short Cut.
