Kia ora, Talofa lava, Ma’lelei, Bula, Aloha and Welcome to Season 11 Episode 29 of Breakfast Bites, by TEIVOVOdigital.com – a wrap of Pasifika people’s sports news, on Sunday morning 03 November 2024.
Happy birthday Trish Aisake!
Coming to you with tons of hanisi from the 180th meridian, in the middle of the Blue continent, where it is a balmy 23 degrees Celsius again at 5am this morning.
In Rugby Union: The Flying Fijians were chasing the score against Scotland 57-17 at Murrayfield. Results for the other Test played overnight - England 22-24 All Blacks at Twickenham and former Wallaby Captain, Rocky “Balboa” Elsom has fled Ireland to avoid extradition to France.
In Rugby League: Tonga burst out of the blocks in their Pacific Championships Test against the New Zealand Kiwis in Auckland yesterday, scoring four unanswered tries in the opening 32 minutes to leave the home crowd stunned.
But the Kiwis came back to level the scores at 24-24 thanks to an incredible solo try from veteran prop Joe Tapine in the 69th minute.
Only for Tonga to clinch a historic 25-24 win, thanks to Isaiya Katoa slotting a long-range field goal in the 76th minute, to book their spot against Australia in the Pacific Championships final.
Go Tonga Go!
In Football: Europe’s top women’s professional soccer league has agreed to a five-year media-rights deal with Sky Sports and BBC. The league described the deal as “the most significant broadcast partnership ever for women’s football.” According to The Athletic, the pact is estimated to be around US$83.8Million.
In Sports Biz: A new VIP ticket package released for the second Las Vegas F1 Grand Prix race, scheduled for November 21 to 23, is almost half the original price last year.
The Lewis Hamilton Package includes a three-day ticket to the West Harmon Grandstands and complimentary food, water, and soft drinks; costs US$672 before taxes and fees, down from the original price of US$1,200.
In Combat Sports: A 27-year-old Australian Muay Thai star, Jayson Tonkin, also known as “The Dingo” was said to be “in a state of severe intoxication” and panicking about why his friend, a 21-year-old British boxer, was found unconscious with drug paraphernalia in their hotel in Pattaya, near Bangkok, Thailand according to local media.
Finally, only in America: The most expensive ticket in boxing history is on offer for the clash between Jake Paul and Mike Tyson.
For the eye-watering sum of US$2Million, fans can purchase an exclusive VIP package for their upcoming showdown at the AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, where a sold-out 80,000 fans are expected on the day.
The 10-ticket 'MVP Owner's Experience' will see two people seated less than six feet from the ring, in a private booth with an additional eight seats in the first two rows of the venue.
Additional perks include the chance to visit both fighters backstage before the fight, an open bar and gourmet all-inclusive food menu, and the chance to have an in-ring photo opportunity after the fight.
The package also offers a signed glove from each fighter, a personal security escort and entrance to various events throughout fight week.
