Trusting God Through Life’s Disappointments

Christians. Sisters. Best Friends.
To paraphrase Lysa TerKeurst, who said it well, “The gap between our expectations and reality is where our disappointment lies.” It’s natural to expectations in life and have a picture of how things are supposed to be, but when those things don’t happen we get disappointed. We as Christian’s need to remember God knows the plan better than we could begin to imagine it. We need to trust God when we don’t get what we want out of life and trust that he knows what he’s doing. It is hard and we are still human, but we can ask God for comfort. We can ask God to give us encouragement. He is gracious enough to give it to us. He loves us so much. In Psalms 23 it says that he walks with us through the valley of the shadow of death, that he will deliver us from evil. That he will prepare a seat for us in the presence of our enemies, while he anoints our head with oil and over flows our cups. Sometimes it doesn’t feel like our cup is overflowing, but are we walking in his plan? Are we being obedient to what he is calling us to? Walking in his path and his plan is key to the overflowing cup. Ask God for these things. Ask God for his path, his encouragement and your cup will overflow. I’m so excited for you because when God delivers it is so overwhelming, the love he has for us! Even through the disappointment of the way we thought it should be, there is encouragement because God knows the better way!
Psalm 23:1-6 ESV
“The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He makes me lie down in green pastures. He leads me beside still waters. He restores my soul. He leads me in paths of righteousness for his name’s sake. Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me. You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; you anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life, and I shall dwell in the house of the Lord forever.”
