Episode 77 of #CoffeesOnMeDavidQuan: Nancy Twigg is a 2nd year undergraduate studying HSPS (Human, Social and Political Sciences) at Homerton College, University of Cambridge. She has a particular interest in the state of UK waterways and rivers, which came about when the legendary HomWildSwimmers had to stop swimming in the cam, due to the sheer level of sewage. Nancy is currently undertaking an internship within government looking at decarbonising in line with UK net zero objectives. Aside from this, she has two rugby blues and is a passionate advocate for the women’s game. Her half Welsh half English identity is certainly more Welsh when it comes to rugby. Nancy is invested in increasing opportunities for students from less economically advantaged backgrounds, and stands as the Charities and Access Officer for the Ospreys Committee next year. As a hobby, she is an avid long-distance walker, having completed the 800km Santiago de Compostela when she was 18. Post-graduation from the University of Cambridge, she plans to walk across America, from the border of Mexico to Canada.
“Ticked that off my bucket list. Bosh! An enlightening experience with such a kind man, I can see why he is a BNOC now. We went into depth about topics I spend a lot of time thinking about, and I am grateful to have had the opportunity to chat. I hope David goes onwards and upwards from here and finds people much more interesting than me to interview. Cheers David! You just got David Quanned!” – Nancy Twigg

WHY? COFFEE'S ON ME, DAVID QUAN 权丁文
TL;DR: To process my emotions after a grueling campaign for President of The Cambridge Union, I reflected upon the influences of my late Grandfather and wrote him a letter: https://linktr.ee/DavidQuan . Drawing inspiration from him, I hope to learn more from others through genuine discussions – giving listeners heartfelt conversations filled with authentic insights, and giving guests legacy-worthy interviews to treasure.
To converse with someone without a strict time limit or structure – meticulously engaging in a curious process of clarifications or elaborations – is not only a rare privilege. This longer format also allows the sharing of otherwise unshared or unappreciated anecdotes. There are appeals to sound-bite media, of course, but the metrics that matter most to me are more about the uniqueness of contribution than measures of virality. Over time, I hope to be able to better deconstruct guests' fascinating experiences – to seamlessly tease out the insights for listeners to enjoy and learn from while cooking, commuting, relaxing, or walking their pet.
But this personal project is fundamentally as much about what we can learn from the guests as it is to give them (current) legacy-worthy interviews. My top priority is for guests to enjoy a unique opportunity to challenge, learn about, and be themselves; hopefully, they will be able to keep recordings of in-depth, heartfelt conversations to reflect on in years’ time.
And the best part for guests? Coffee’s on Me, David Quan 权丁文
