Episode 93 of #CoffeesOnMeDavidQuan: Stephanie Webb is a second year English student at Homerton College, University of Cambridge. She grew up in a trilingual environment in Hong Kong where she attended a local school for 12 years followed by an international school. She was granted membership to the Hong Kong Academy for Gifted Education (HKAGE) in Year 8, and was awarded a double honorary and academic scholarship when she was at Harrow HK. Language, culture and identity are largely at the core of her interests. She’s particularly intrigued by the Asian diaspora literary niche, as she feels it resonates with her experience the most. Feminist literature is her key interest as well, and she’s looking to introduce recitals/ discussion groups through being on the committee of the Cambridge Gender Studies Society. She’s always been passionate about writing and expressing herself through words; she believes literature can be used not just as a platform for self-expression, but also as a catalyst for social change. She wrote for Hong Kong’s largest youth-led nonprofit, ISSIA magazine, a publication centred around empowering student voices and raising awareness for global issues. In particular, she feels strongly about making Cambridge more accessible to international students of a lower socioeconomic background, and is working as a mentor for the student organisation Access Abroad HK. Taking her ideas off the paper, she participated in two TEDx initiatives, with both of her talks being selected to be published when she was 13 and 16. She was awarded the prestigious Hong Kong Young Writers award in 2019, and placed in several other writing competitions. A number of her works have been published, such as in the HKAGE’s ‘Out Stand’ publication which chose to exhibit four of her stories. As the first Poet Laureate for Harrow, poetry holds a special place in her heart. She had a lot of fun hosting poetry workshops and was commissioned to write poems on different occasions. At university, she’s enjoying writing for Varsity and is looking forward to starting her new role as Editor for the Cambridge Language Collective.

Outside of writing, she is a fan of theatre and performance. She used to be (embarrassingly so, as she recounts), a huge theatre kid, even playing Oliver Twist in a school production. She hopes to become more involved in the Cambridge theatre scene next year.
"Talking to David was one of the most though-provoking conversations I’ve had – he truly is a wonderful listener and interviewer. It was almost cathartic to be able to unpack the different facets of my identity that I think make me who I am, and I’m definitely going to be thinking about the questions he posed for a long time!" - Stephanie Webb

TL;DR: To process my emotions after a grueling campaign for President of The Cambridge Union, I reflected upon the influences of my late Grandfather and wrote him a letter: https://linktr.ee/DavidQuan . Drawing inspiration from him, I hope to learn more from others through genuine discussions – giving listeners heartfelt conversations filled with authentic insights, and giving guests legacy-worthy interviews to treasure.
And the best part for guests? Coffee’s on Me, David Quan 权丁文
