3. **Tobacco Industry Cover-Up (20th Century)**: Internal documents revealed that major tobacco companies knew about the health risks associated with smoking and nicotine addiction but actively worked to conceal this information and manipulate public perception through deceptive marketing and lobbying efforts.
4. **Iran-Contra Affair (1980s)**: During the Reagan administration, senior officials secretly facilitated the sale of arms to Iran, despite an arms embargo, and used the proceeds to fund Contra rebels in Nicaragua. The administration initially denied these activities, leading to a significant political scandal.
