Welcome to the Faery Whispering Podcast! Hello, I'm Claire Casely
In this two part episode hear an inspiring ‘David and Goliath story of how villagers of Teigngrace, in Devon, and environmental protestors joined forces in July 1997 to save their local landscape, wildlife and way of life from destruction by a large mineral company. It was called the ‘Two Rivers Campaign’.
These events led to the villagers and campaigners to forge strong friendships and change their outlooks in many ways. They decided to twin Teigngrace with the faeries of rivers, trees and valleys (Naiads, Dryads and Napaeiads). This is what first peaked my interest and led me on a journey to talk with those people involved. This is my homage to these kind and brave folk and a landscape that is dear to my heart.
I’m thankful to Joy, Walter and Ivan for sharing their stories. Also my thanks to singer-songwriter Nicky Swann for allowing me to use her track ‘A Piece of Me’ from her album ‘How Does Your Land Lie?’ which is her homage to Newton Abbot.
