It took about 20 minutes, but the team looked pretty good in the transition moments. Rob said they were emphasizing that over the past few weeks so if we’re not going to have possession, I think we gotta be pretty happy with that.
In truth, the team played some pretty competent football, which sounds like a low bar to meet but it’s just how the season has been. We held the top team in the West scoreless for 75 minutes. Moreover, we avoided the glaring gaffes.
Not happy to see both of the goals chalked off for offside but nonetheless it was nice to see them come from a restart of play and an attack in transition. Both areas have been lacking and that’s been frustrating because they should be strengths of this team.
Fortune needs to be playing higher up more often. He’s got real attacking quality and is at his best when he is in a more direct attacking role than he is as an orchestrator in the midfield.
Miranchuk coming on didn’t dramatically change things but we did get to see some of his quality. He’s got a pretty sweet left foot that’s well calibrated. That should bode well for future service into the box. If only we had a lethal 9 waiting for said service.
