Please consider episode 236 to be our late Christmas present to you all! We are looking at two recent films from director Ryan Kruger, starting off with Fried Barry from 2020. This is such a trippy, insane and full-tilt experience that it might leave you scratching your head the first time you watch it. This isn't a bad thing since it only gets better each time you watch it! We follow that up with 2024's Street Trash, which is a sequel to the 1987 film of the same name. Though it has moments where it seems like it's trying to make a point about corporations and society, it's really just a really fun Troma-inspired movie with some great splattery effects, and some genuinely hilarious comedy. We highly recommend BOTH films!

Welcome to the hellscape that is 2025! We are back in the cave for episode 237, this time looking at two films from 1973, both shot largely in the Phillipines and both featuring dangerous women! We start off with " Devil Woman " which is known by several different names (and also listed with a variety of release dates) which focuses on a magical woman with snakes for hair who is seeking revenge on the people that killed her family. It's low-budget fun but not "good" by any metric. We follow that with " Wonder Women " fom show-favorite direct Robert Vincent O'Neil and with a stellar cast lead by Ross Hagen and Nancy Kwan . The plot revolves around an evil scientist with a money-making scheme to transplant healthy body parts from unwilling donors onto the bodies of rich people. Along comes agent Hagen who settles everybody's hash! It's a blast from beginning to end! Please let us know what you thought of the show, and send us some suggestions for future episodes. It has become a tradition around Halloween that we find movies that deal with our ACTUAL fears. For this episode, Mike has revealed his own fear of getting old and the changes that come along with that. We start off with 2014's " Taking of Deborah Logan ", which focuses on an elderly woman, fading into senility who allows her day-to-day activities to be filmed as part of a study of alzheimer's disease. Things quickly swing into the supernatural, growing steadily into pure horror. We follow that up with 2024's " The Substance " starring Demi Moore and Margaret Qualley as opposite sides of the same coin. Moore is an aging celebrity who gets a mysterious offer to try a process that will release a younger version of herself. She can't resist the temptation and we meet her younger version played by Qualley. This movie has a LOT to say about Hollywood, aging, society and so much more. Both of these films are worth watching, and force the viewer to consider their own twilight years. Please let us know what you thought of the show, and send us some suggestions for future episodes. After a VERY long break, we're finally back with a new episode saluting the legendary Roger Corman ! We chose two films he directed that are EXTREMELY different from each other. We start with 1964's science fiction flick " X the Man with the X-Ray Eyes " starring Oscar-winner Ray Milland as a scientist who wants to expand the range of human vision. He develops a serum that he tests on himself that ends up giving him the ability to see through various things. It's a great story of human folly and the mysteries of the universe. Really great stuff. We follow that with 1967's " The Secret Invasion ", a classic war movie where a group of convicts are recruited for an "impossible mission". A great cast and top-notch plotting make this thing riveting from beginning to end. It should be no surprise that we were completely impressed with both movies! Mr Corman will be sorely missed but he has left behind a mountain of work that we will certainly be revisiting. It's been a LONG time since our last episode, but we are returning with something VERY special. Steve Barkett is a one-of-a-kind filmmaker who we had never heard of but who left us with two really great examples of low-budget sci-fi magic. We start with his first directing effort, 1982's " The Aftermath ". In the film, Barkett is part of the crew of a spaceship that returns to Earth to find it has gone through an apocalyptic event and the world is run by gangs of vicious thugs. With special effects from some of the best in the business, it rises above it's many restrictions and tells a fun story with a ton of heart. We follow that with Barkett's second and final directing job " Empire of the Dark " from 1990. The story here is much more complicated, with evil cults, magical portals, alternate dimensions and various additional bits and pieces. This is another fun story with a few standout moments, and once again packed with a ton of heart. You can tell with both of these movies that Barkett and his team really cared about what they were doing and gave their all. It's hard to fault that sort of filmmaking and we strongly encourage you to watch both! Please let us know what you thought of the show, and send us some suggestions for future episodes. We are back to college for episode 232! We start off with " The Initiation " from 1984. With a great cast including Vera Miles , Clu Gulager and Daphne Zuniga , it's a twisty little tale of a college student with a cloudy past that all comes to light during a sorority initiation. It's a solid slasher with some fun reveals. We follow that with 1987's " Blood Sisters " from director Roberta Findlay . It also focuses on a sorority ceremony with a group of pledges. They are sent to a seemingly haunted house to spend the night but things quickly go awry. It's very low budget but manages to overcome that limitation in surprising ways. Western films made in Italy are very special to us in the cave. They turn the American version of the genre on its ear and give a whole new way to view that era. We look at two interesting examples on this episode of the podcast. We start off with the epically titled " Django Kill! If You Live, Shoot! " from 1967. Directed by Giulio Questi and starring Tomas Milian as "The Stranger" it's a twisty tale of revenge set in a surreal western town, and the film frequently lapses into bizareness. It's quite a ride! We follow that up with show-favorite director Lucio Fulci's 1975 film " The Four of the Apocalypse ". Filled with Fulci's signature violence, this one gets REALLY brutal and then rips your heart out at the end with some real emotion. It's quite an accomplishment. Even though we thought both films were overlong, we still think they're worth watching! Please let us know what you thought of the show, and send us some suggestions for future episodes.
