Exploring Countertransference with Dr. Amy Meyers
In this episode of the Heart-Centered Therapist podcast, meet Dr. Amy Meyers, a seasoned psychotherapist and professor trained in psychoanalysis, as we discuss the concept of countertransference in therapy. Dr. Meyers, with over 30 years of practice and 18 years of teaching experience, shares insights from her career and from hosting her own podcast, 'What Would Dr. Meyers Do?' We learn about what countertransference is, explore real life examples illustrating countertransference in action, including handling personal biases, emotional stakes in therapy, and the growth that comes from self-reflection and understanding one's countertransference. Plus we cover the importance of supervision and community in nurturing a productive therapeutic practice. In short, we really look at how therapists can manage their feelings and reactions during therapy sessions!
