Criticism made about lake quality

A UK environment committee has strongly criticized Stormont’s failure to protect the water quality of Northern Ireland’s lakes and rivers.

Tá cáineadh láidir déanta ag coiste comhshaoil de chuid na Ríochta Aontaithe go bhfuil ag teip ar Stormont caighdeán uisce locha agus aibhneacha Thuaisceart Éireann a chosaint.

It was said that the appropriate resources are not in place to protect the rivers, rivers that flow into Loch Eath, which are badly polluted with blue- green algae.

Lake Eath provides 40% of the water that is drunk in the North and for the second year it is full of blue green algae which endangers the health of people and animals.

In a report by the United Kingdom’s Environmental Protection Office, it was said that Stormont, which is responsible for protecting the rivers that flow into the lake, is not doing so.

The report states that the goal of improving the quality of the water has been missed and if changes are not made there is a risk that the damage will never be rectified.
