The heavyweight in question was Andrew Golota, a talented but troubled Pole who, in 1996, fought Riddick Bowe twice and conspired to lose both fights when in a winning position. Duva, Golota’s head coach at the time, watched helplessly from the corner on both occasions and struggled to understand how Golota had fouled his way to consecutive disqualification defeats.
