This three-track EP is his debut on Mexico City’s Boyanza records and the first of many upcoming releases from his catalog. The first track Atencion Nosotros features intricately woven hand percussion forming a unique shuffle and foundation for it’s bouncy, rubber band bassline and smooth, spectral synthwork. Written in Mexico City with DJ and vocalist JNGLEJ, the track features her vocals as a kind of call to action: attention everyone- for tonight, everything is different. Track two, An Elephant in St. Tropez, features a low-slung and deconstructed tribal rhythm just begging for a packed and sweaty outdoor floor, with pan flutes and Matt’s signature synth work crescendo-ing to a bassline reveal befitting of the track’s namesake creature. Culminating with a massive and sleazy 303, the track is a cheeky ode to crowd control specialists like Julio Bashmore and Kyodai. The EP finishes off with it’s namesake ‘Aguacultura’, a first for Matt as he explores a mostly drumless, borderline ambient synth composition. Produced on a bullet train from Osaka to Tokyo, Aguacultura takes us below the surface with a meditative, relaxed dive into friendly waters.
