28 And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose. —Romans 8:28
What We Think: God makes good things happen for my good.
28 And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose. —Romans 8:28
If/Then (A condition)
15 “If you love me, you will keep my commandments. —John 14:15
The promise of good is for those who love God
28 And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose. —Romans 8:28There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. —Romans 8:110 But if Christ is in you, although the body is dead because of sin, the Spirit is life **because of righteousness. 11 **If the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, he who raised Christ Jesus from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through his Spirit who dwells in you. —Romans 8:10-1113 For if you live according to the flesh you will die, but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live. —Romans 8:13
The good is a bigger picture for Christians: life
as we wait eagerly for adoption as sons, the redemption of our bodies. 24 For in this hope we were saved. —Romans 8:23-24
Lovers of God will receive and inheritance: Glorification
17 and if children, then heirs—heirs of God and fellow heirs with Christ, provided we suffer with him in order that we may also be glorified with him. —Romans 8:1718 For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worth comparing with the glory that is to be revealed to us. —Romans 8:18
Suffering with Jesus leads to Glory
For we know that if the tent that is our earthly home is destroyed, we have a building from God, a house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens. 2 For in this tent we groan, longing to put on our heavenly dwelling, 3 if indeed by putting it on we may not be found naked. 4 For while we are still in this tent, we groan, being burdened—not that we would be unclothed, but that we would be further clothed, so that what is mortal may be swallowed up by life. 5 He who has prepared us for this very thing is God, who has given us the Spirit as a guarantee. 6 So we are always of good courage. We know that while we are at home in the body we are away from the Lord, 7 for we walk by faith, not by sight. 8 Yes, we are of good courage, and we would rather be away from the body and at home with the Lord. 9 So whether we are at home or away, we make it our aim to please him. 10 For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, so that each one may receive what is due for what he has done in the body, whether good or evil. —2 Corinthians 5:1-10
—Revelation 21:1-837
- Romans 8:37-39
Takeaway: God’s Love is Bigger than my Biggest suffering and my inheritance is infinitely greater than my loss.
