In one of the country's most segregated cities, Marquette faces its own challenges of fighting institutional racism and creating a welcoming environment for all students, faculty and staff. President Lovell views pursuing racial justice as an imperative for Marquette. In the wake of a disturbing incident on campus in the spring, he shared a message with campus, saying "We shouldn’t expect only students of color to respond to racism. I’m asking all of Marquette to join me and share why you #StandAgainstRacism,” and that, “privilege means using your position to speak up and bring about change.” In this episode, Marquette leaders and Martha Barry from YWCA's Unlearning Racism program talk about what it takes to combat implicit bias and racism on campus, in our city and beyond.
