In this very potent and important conversation I’m speaking to Madhu Vaishnav, the incredible lady behind IPHD, a small NGO based out of Jodhpur, India. During the podcast we speak about Madhu’s journey, diving into the topic of gender and what it means to be a woman in India (a still patriarchal society), to her time working as a social worker in the slums of Jodhpur, to now her work within rural community development. We discuss the significance of women’s empowerment and why this remains Madhu’s sole focus. We also touch on the creation of ‘Saheli Women’, the social enterprise program formed in 2015 by Madhu to create employment opportunities and financial and social independence for the women of Bhikamkor, the rural village, adopted by IPHD in 2015, which is currently an incredible ethical clothing enterprise. I was introduced to Madhu through my beautiful friend Claire Hart, who just spent some time in the community developing her ethical clothing label Arezü. So she chimes in too through the conversation! Sink in and dive into Madhu’s story, her passion, her mission and the incredible work she’s doing from the ground up in rural Indian communities through the empowerment of women.
