Some people may not know this about me but I love to do poetry and I always write to call for change. Because I believe in a future that is better than today. So as Nigeria clocks 60 years of independence I did this piece for her, for us.
We know what homes we come from. This used to be reason enough...
Reason enough to not eat every junk society provided us. Reason enough to not display the dirty linen of our kin in public. Reason enough to willingly give respect where it is due. Reason enough to represent our origins with results borne from diligence and excellence.
We know what homes we come from. This could be reason enough...
To forget the next big thing and tender to a legacy that will feed our children. To treat home like home, if we are ashamed of it then it is our responsibility to fix it. To restore the honour and values that gave us ground to grow.
We know what homes we come from. It is the bond that courses through our differences and makes us one. It is the love that makes strangers into brothers. It is the energy that we bring. It is Nigeria. It is us and we are it.
We know what homes we come from. May we build homes our children will not be ashamed of.
