I paced around my apartment trying to figure out the whole “fake” thing, even went for a jog. Came to the conclusion that I’m a fake for—and before I even delve into this, I’m sure that this epiphany, of sorts, will seem conspicuous, and perhaps, as I age, I’ll realize that this, that all of this was idiotic, dumb post-childhood babble about nothing. Maybe not, though. Anyway, I realized that I’m a fake for preaching so much about equality this, that, and I’m still able to even think (let alone answer) such a question as: “If you could live among only one ethnicity, what would it be?” I think that this is a very understanding question. Understanding of yourself, understanding of the way that you perceive the world, and then from there you can dig into why. However! I’m upset with myself for being able to categorize people so easily. White people here, black people here… (It always confused me why, on college applications and such, there’s a box that asks: Hispanic, Yes or No. And then that’s its own section… Anyway…) I know, I know that this is how the world is. You see people, and okay… This person is this, that person is that. I wonder if we can unteach ourselves these things, though. And I also wonder if that would be considered evolving, or devolving, and if either of these concepts are relevant. God forbid people learn compassion again. Nostalgia doesn’t make much sense either. When were people compassionate? When they were chopping heads off, and throwing them down staircases? Back before fire, when there was, like, one other person to be compassionate to? I think, and this is stepping on the bounds of cliche, but I think that this is an unparalleled time to be a human. So much information, some real, others not. So many directions that we can go, because we’ve seen so much and, from here, we can decide how we want our future to look. Yes, we. Me, you. The person with the eyes, the hands, none of the above. The person with a beating heart, and a brain in their skull. Thank you for listening to One or All Notions, I’ll see you on Neptune.
