The first space factory arrives and is called Rev 1. It is being built by Thales Alenia Space, a joint venture between Thales (67%) and Leonardo (33%), and Space Cargo Unlimited which today announced the signing of the first phase of a contract for the conception and construction of Rev 1, the first orbiting space factory together with the opening of a Space Cargo Unlimited branch in Turin.
Founded in 2014, Space Cargo Unlimited is one of Europe's leading privately owned commercial operators of vehicles dedicated to space production.
With the ambition of being able to exploit a fleet of autonomous spacecraft, Space Cargo Unlimited underlines that it will thus pave "the way for a true democratization of access to space". As prime contractor on the project, Thales Alenia Space will be responsible for the design, engineering and development of the Rev1 vehicle while Space Cargo Unlimited will be the owner and commercial operator of the vehicle.
