When The Devil Wears Prada, The Underwoods Paint The City Red
Manage episode 313406824 series 3269506
Imagine a world where being different was better than being ordinary. Six misfit kids (Sarah-The Ginger, Ben-The Geek, Nate-The Deaf Kid, Marcus- The Bully, Steph-The Dreamer & Mike with his Imaginary Friend) find themselves part of an unsolved mystery when Ben and his family move into a haunted house. Not only do they all find acceptance but unite together to become ghost hunters.
By using their unique abilities and teamwork, they get one step closer to solving the case. They never imagined the magical transformation their lives would take.
This is a unique story that was written in two points of view. The female and male voice allows the reader to see through the eyes of Sarah and Ben. Since this book portrays life during the 1920’s and 1980’s, we have created an informative webpage for our younger readers. History can be fun!
Cristal Sipple-Underwood was born & raised in Erie, PA. Her passion has always been writing. She started writing poetry and short stories in elementary school and has never stopped. She credits being an avid daydreamer as her fuel for creativity.
Andrew Underwood was born and raised in Salem, Utah. He attributes his imagination to being raised in a small farm town, being one of six children, and his mom actively reading to him throughout his life.
Cristal and Andy met through a creative writing group and became fast friends. They have known each other for eleven years and were married in 2016.
'We are an ordinary married couple that lives in a small town, Girard, PA. For the past eleven years we have collaborated on a book series that focuses on the quote, "It's not about tolerance, it's about acceptance." We recently published the first book, "Secret of 8." This series is geared toward tweens and teens that are bullied or feel like they don't fit in. We have had firsthand experience with these feelings as children- myself with social anxiety. My husband was an undersized, geeky daydreamer. Funny as that may sound, bullying has gotten much worse. We have experienced it with our own children, five of them, and have looked for a way to change it."
The second book in the series called "The Wandering" highlights a character with OCD and is to be released in 2020. The third book, "Freaks to the Left" highlights a character with Down syndrome and a gay character. We plan to have a total of 8 books in this series.
Our main goal as writers is to show today's kids that you can accept the differences in appearance, abilities/disabilities or lifestyle instead of tolerating or bullying. We are hopeful that the children of today will change the way our world thinks and acts in the future.
