A Particular Unity

There are many ways to be united with other people. You can find others who are just like you. You can find others who like the same things you like. You can find people who hate the same things you hate. But at some point something can change. Maybe you don't like or hate the same things anymore. What happens to the unity then? If our unity is dependent on our sameness with other people then the unity falls apart when we realize we are not completely alike. The church is supposed to have unity - you can look that up in Scripture, it's kind of a big deal! But we are not all the same. The Church is made up of young and old, different cultures, different languages, even different economic situations. Yet we can gather with a Christian who is very different than us from another part of the world and still have unity. How is this possible? In a sermon called "A Particular Unity", and is part 2 of our sermon series "A Peculiar Unity", we look at the importance of the local church. We look at the importance of the gospel being the focal point for our unity and the only thing powerful enough to keep us unified.
