Coronavirus cases are surging in Latin America, adding to record numbers of new infections around the world. While the United States leads the world with the most deaths from COVID-19, Brazil and Mexico rank second and third. And as the pandemic rages in Colombia, Peru, Argentina and Bolivia, Latin America has now passed Europe as the region with the most fatalities.

How will governments help those affected and ensure their overburdened healthcare systems don’t collapse?

To get some answers, Mike Walter spoke with Brazilian journalist Gustavo Ribeiro and scientist Marcia Castro who heads the Department of Global Health and Population at Harvard University’s Chan School of Public Health.
