Dawn Graham PhD is back for the last episode of this series on Psychology and its role in caring for patients. We talk about how students are primed to live in the future and as a result we are not teaching our students to be in “the present”. That has direct implications for our patients and the quality of care that we give them. We discuss the how “the next thing”, pursued from the silo of your own home, without true interpersonal communication, is affecting our psyches, our ability to have good in-person dialogue and ultimately suicide and burnout rates. Its convicting. You’ll notice that we discussed doing an episode on the social determinants of health after Week 6 last years because “my bandwidth was going to expand…” well that seems pretty funny now. Don’t worry I spoke with Dawn today about other things and we are going to get back on track with that as well…thanks for your patience.
