Jeff Platt joins us this week for episode 86 of Sports ‘N Torts. Jeff lives in Las Vegas where he works in the poker field – both playing it professionally and also announcing it. Jeff has played in the largest poker games in the world including the Main Event of the World Series of Poker where he has finished as high as 60th place. He is the host of PokerGo, PokerNew and No Gamble No Future. Jeff has also hosted the Global Poker Awards and works the World Series of Poker. The guy gives a great monologue!

Jeff has always wanted to work in sports and journalism and the news. He went to USC to pursue a degree in the field and then worked his way up the industry holding jobs that took him to Mississippi and Texas to include covering the Dallas Mavericks and San Antonio Spurs. Along the way, Jeff discovered poker and that is where his passion lied and what ultimately led him to Vegas. We talk all aspects of poker: theory, studying, mathematics, training, strategy, practicing, routine, shuffling cards and chips, bad beats, sunglasses – yes or no, how to know who the sucker is at the table, and eating/drinking routines. We also talk about life in Las Vegas as a “local”. Jeff is the rare individual who found a passion, followed it and made a career out of it.

Jeff is a also a huge NBA basketball fan and college football fan. We talk about the Dallas Mavericks and we give him an opportunity to give his pitch for the USC Trojans and Lincoln Riley to rebut what the guys on CFB LC have been saying this year about the program.

Jeff is a great guy with an interesting and unique story and you will not want to miss this one.
