Y’all, life is hard. If you’re struggling it can feel even heard to reveal and live as who you really are. This week, Stephanie and Jodie dive into a deep exploration of your authentic self. We promise to unravel the complexities of self-perception, as shaped by our upbringing, societal expectations, and the constant pursuit of acceptance. More than that, we provide practical strategies to re-define your identity, advocate for your strengths, and steer your life journey towards genuine self-expression.

Jodie and Stephanie attempt to answer questions like:

How does our upbringing affect our authentic self?

How can we mindfully practise authenticity?

How can we give ourselves permission to be our true selves?

How can we explore our values and make decisions based on them in order to cultivate authenticity?

Chapters:

(00:01) Developing Authenticity and Building Connection

What does it mean to have an authentic self? We strategize on developing authenticity, like embracing our own strengths. We also explore how the need for acceptance and belonging can influence how we define ourselves.

(11:51) Embracing Authenticity and Vulnerability in Therapy

Past experiences and upbringing can inform our sense of self, and how challenging it can be to unlearn those behaviours that are not true to ourselves. Vulnerability, honesty, and compassion with ourselves is explored, as well as the role that shame plays in preventing us from doing so.

(23:14) Exploring Authenticity and Self-Awareness

We discuss how to give ourselves permission to be our true selves and how to be vulnerable and openhearted without hurting others. We look at how to follow our passions, make decisions based on our values, and listen to our inner voice. We also explore introspection and internal family systems to better understand ourselves.
