Welcome to this super episode of the Sexier than a Squirrel podcast, where we are joined by the inspirational and energising Dr. Natalie Rogers, an awesome Pro Dog Trainer and an amazing PDT Geek. In this episode, Natalie shares an epic layer of insight into one of her biggest passions - and something that is very close to the heart of absoluteDogs and the entire Gamechanger community … Today, we’re diving into the world of deaf dogs!

As a wonderful pet parent to her own beautiful deaf dog and having grown up with a deaf and blind dog, Natalie's wealth of knowledge and expertise brings us a hugely impactful and enlightening episode!

Natalie has an undergraduate degree in Psychology and Zoology, a PhD in Biological Science and a Diploma of Canine Behaviour Science and Technology, specialising in Aggressive Behaviour. She has been teaching biology and psychology at the University of New South Wales (Sydney, Australia) since 2010 and is currently lecturing on anxiety, stress, mental illness, animal learning and comparative psychology!

Natalie is also a volunteer trainer with Hear No Evil Deaf Dog Rescue Australia and, together with Havoc, her 4 year old deaf Boxer, is an ambassador for Deaf Dogs Rock too!

Today, Lauren and Natalie will be diving deep into some of the most common struggles, myths and misconceptions when it comes to deaf dogs to bring us a massively insightful, thought-provoking and educational episode.

Let’s take a sneak peek at what you’ll find in this episode:

✔️ We’ll discuss why deaf dogs are so vulnerable and why, as their very best pet parents and advocates, we need to set them up for success and proactively safeguard them while also working to empower them with optimism and confidence.

✔️ We’ll dispel some myths about deaf dogs being more prone to aggressions and reactivity, separation anxiety and behaviour struggles in general.

✔️ We also touch on how being proactive in your dog’s training and focusing on 3 core (and non-negotiable) skills can help prevent or solve so many common training and behavioural struggles that owners of deaf dogs often face.

AND MORE!

There’s so much in this episode, so if you have a deaf dog you don't want to miss this episode! If you know anyone who has a deaf dog, whether it be a friend, family member, neighbour, local rescue or anyone at all, this is the podcast episode for them too!

Jump in and have a listen – and while you’re here leave a review for us and share with us what was your biggest takeaway – and remember, no matter what struggles you might be facing with your dog, there is always a game for that!
