Congressman David Cicilline is promoting passage in the Senate of House-passed bills initiating "universal background checks" for gun sales to screen felons, domestic abusers and others considered a danger to themselves or others, and to close a loophole that allows for the sale of a firearm even if a background check is not completed within three business days.
Joining Cicilline were Tonya King Harris, executive director of the Rhode Island Coalition Against Domestic Violence and Diana Garlington (pictured). Her daughter Essence was the victim of a shooting in 2011 in Providence.
