Under the auspices of MLB, the Pittsburgh Pirates and the Clemente Family, Derek strongly believed in wanting to see the annual Roberto Clemente Day celebration become a bit more meaningful and what occurred was groundbreaking. For the first time since 1972, the Pirates team honored “The Great One” by wearing his uniform number.
