Reporting the correct foul type shows that you are self-aware and have full clarity on the play. Don't rush any of the steps and always be thorough. With so much screening activity in today's game, illegal screens are fouls that we ponder calling many times throughout a contest. Getting them wrong can be game interruptions, so it's important to let them call themselves and make sure we are 1000% when we blow the whistle. During the first free throw, will you cross half court to speak with a coach or is it unfair to the game to be that far out of position.⁣ ⁣ Avoid being reactionary to contact especially when it's initiated by the offense, having a lack of patience leads to reactionary decisions and incorrect calls. Just because players hit the floor doesn't mean that we need to always have a whistle on that play. Avoid speaking in absolutes as every play is different.
